Rochester, NY (USA). (December 12, 2016) – Acuity Polymers announced today US FDA clearance for its first gas-permeable (GP) contact lens material available in the US. Acuity 100 is a highly oxygen permeable fluorosilicone co-polymer for use in custom and specialty GP contact lenses. The company is starting the process of appointing leading US laboratories as alternate manufacturing sites for Acuity 100 GP contact lenses.
“We are thrilled to have achieved this important milestone in our company’s development”, said Jim Bonafini, President/COO of Acuity Polymers. “This is the first of many products we intend to bring to the US and global markets”, he added. “We are fully committed to the specialty lens segment and look forward to serving the labs and in turn the specialty fitters with excellent products and services”, added Jonathan Jacobson, CEO of Acuity Polymers.
Acuity 100 GP contact lenses are indicated for daily wear for the correction of refractive error (myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia and/or astigmatism) in aphakic and non-aphakic persons with non-diseased eyes. The lenses may be prescribed for daily wear in otherwise non-diseased eyes that require a rigid contact lens for the management of irregular corneal conditions such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, or following penetrating keratoplasty or refractive (e.g., LASIK) surgery.
